Poland – the cradle of the European oil industry.

Many associate the beginning of the oil era with 1859 and Drake’s well in Titusville (USA). Meanwhile, in Europe, the pioneer was… Poland.

In 1854, in Bóbrka near Krosno, Ignacy Łukasiewicz, together with Tytus Trzecieski and Karol Klobassa-Zrencki, launched the first oil well on our continent.
– The “Franek” well is today the oldest still-operating oil well in the world.
– It was here that Łukasiewicz developed the first kerosene lamp and paved the way for the industrial use of oil in Europe.
– Poland contributed to global energy something that became the foundation of the entire petrochemical industry.

Today, 170 years later, we look at oil differently – as a resource requiring modern technologies, safety, and a sustainable approach. But it is worth remembering that it was in Poland that the European oil industry was born.
